It is important to schedule your biannual dental appointments at Plainsboro Dental Services. But in-between appointments, you need to take care of your smile at home! Here are some easy steps to take in the care and keeping of your smile.
Brush: Of course, brushing your teeth is fundamental to maintaining your smile. Brush twice a day for two minutes each time. This is a great time to listen to your favorite tunes, or to reflect on the day. Brush the inside, outside, and chewing surfaces of your teeth, and don’t forget the inside of your front teeth.
Floss: Flossing is the inseparable companion to brushing, and must be done once a day. It should take only 2-3 minutes each time, so it’s easy to integrate into your daily routine. Use a single-filament, 18-inch piece of floss. This will make sure it doesn’t fray, and that you have enough floss to use a clean piece of thread for each tooth.
Other Cleaning Methods: Mouthwash can be beneficial to some people. Choose a therapeutic mouthwash rather than a cosmetic one. Look for the ADA Seal of Acceptance on the packaging. Don’t give mouthwash to children under 6 years old. Additionally, it is beneficial to chew sugar-free gum for 20 minutes after eating. This produces saliva flow and cleans your mouth while providing fortifying substances to your mouth.
